Coordinate Planes

The three coordinate planes are:

$$xy\text{-plane}:z=0$$

$$yz\text{-plane}:x=0$$

$$zx\text{-plane}:y=0$$

Usage

- Used to identify the plane containing a given point or line.

Question 1

Let a straight line L pass through P(2,−1,3) and be perpendicular to the lines $$\frac{x-1}{2}=\frac{y+1}{1}=\frac{z-3}{-2}and\ \frac{x-3}{1}=\frac{y-2}{3}=\frac{z+2}{4}.$$ If L intersects the yz-plane at point Q, the distance PQ is:

Question 2

A straight line $$L: \frac{x-1}{2} = \frac{y-2}{-1} = \frac{z-3}{1}$$ intersects the plane $$P: x + y + z = 6$$ at a fixed point $$A$$. If $$B$$ is a variable point lying on the parabola $$y^2 = 4x$$ situated entirely within the $$xy$$-plane (where $$z = 0$$), then the minimum straight-line distance between point $$A$$ and point $$B$$ is:
