How to Use GMAT Mocks Effectively
A mock test is only as good as the analysis that follows. Here is a proven strategy used by 700+ scorers that you can implement from Day 1.
Start with a Diagnostic Mock
Take Mock 1 without any preparation to establish your baseline score. This tells you where you stand, how much time you need, and which sections require the most work.
Focus on Quant & Verbal Before Data Insights
Build core concepts in Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning before moving to Data Insights. DI questions draw heavily on Quant and Verbal skills, so a strong foundation is essential for that section.
Take One Mock Every Two Weeks
For a 2–3 month prep timeline, aim for one full mock every two weeks. Between mocks, work on topic-wise sectionals and daily targets to plug specific gaps identified in the previous mock.
Spend 2x More Time on Analysis Than the Test Itself
For every 2 hrs 15 mins spent taking a mock, spend at least 4–5 hours analysing it. Review every wrong answer, understand the reasoning, get the detailed explanation, and categorise errors as conceptual, careless, or timing-based.
Practise the Question Review & Edit Feature
The GMAT Focus Edition uniquely allows you to review and edit answers within a section. Practise this skill in your mocks -know when to use it and how much time to budget for the review screen.
Track Timing Per Question Type
Use the analytics dashboard to monitor your average time per question type. Target roughly 2 minutes per question on average. Identify where you are spending too long and use sectional tests to build speed in those areas.
