Three-Dimensional Coordinate System

A point in three-dimensional space is represented by:

$$P(x,y,z)$$

where $$x,y,z$$ are its coordinates along the $$x$$, $$y$$, and $$z$$ axes.

Terminology

- x-coordinate: Directed distance from the $$yz$$-plane.

- y-coordinate: Directed distance from the $$zx$$-plane.

- z-coordinate: Directed distance from the $$xy$$-plane.

Usage

- Used to represent points and geometric objects in 3D space.
