Differentiability of a Modulus Function at a Zero

For:

$$f(x)=|u(x)|$$

if:

$$u(a)=0$$

then differentiability at $$a$$ must be checked separately using one-sided derivatives.

Usage

- Used because modulus can create a sharp corner at zeros of the inner function.
