Tangent Perpendicular to a Given Line

Tangent Perpendicular to a Given Line

If a given line has slope $$m$$, a perpendicular tangent has slope:

$$-\frac{1}{m}$$

Hence the required tangents are:

$$y=-\frac{x}{m}\pm\sqrt{\frac{a^2}{m^2}+b^2}$$

Usage

- Used when the tangent must be perpendicular to a given line.
