Optimization with Symmetry
If an objective function is symmetric under interchange of positive variables:
$$f(x,y)=f(y,x)$$
then a candidate symmetric extremum often occurs at:
$$x=y$$
Usage
- Used as a useful observation in symmetric optimization problems; the candidate must still be verified.
