Optimization with a Constraint

If two variables satisfy:

$$g(x,y)=0$$

and the quantity to be optimized is:

$$F(x,y)$$

then the constraint can be used to express one variable in terms of the other before applying:

$$\frac{dF}{dx}=0$$

Usage

- Used in constrained maximum-minimum problems at JEE level.
