Monotonicity Criterion

If $$f'(x)>0$$ for every $$x$$ in an interval, then $$f(x)$$ is strictly increasing there.

If $$f'(x)<0$$ for every $$x$$ in an interval, then $$f(x)$$ is strictly decreasing there.

Usage

- Used to determine the monotonic behaviour of a function.
