Exact Differential Equation

An equation of the form:

$$M(x,y)\,dx+N(x,y)\,dy=0$$

is exact if:

$$\frac{\partial M}{\partial y}=\frac{\partial N}{\partial x}$$

Usage

- Used to identify whether a differential equation can be directly integrated as the differential of a function.

Question 1

Consider the initial value problem

$$(3x^2y+2xy+y^3)\,dx+(x^3+x^2+3xy^2)\,dy=0,\qquad y(1)=1$$
