IIM Bangalore is often considered the toughest IIM colleges to get into, it is highly selective of the kind of students it wants. While IIM A wants students that have shown impeccable achievements all throughout their lives and IIM C wants students that are sharp but allows one mistake in the list of achievements that it wants, IIM B is a little different.

IIM Bangalore Eligibility Criteria 2025
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. The minimum percentage of marks required would be 45% in the case of applicants belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and those with disability.
- For persons without a Bachelors' degree but have completed professional courses, such as CA/ICWA/CS after class XII, the minimum percentage shall be the same as required above.
- A valid score in CAT is a prerequisite.

IIM Bangalore Minimum Cut-off Scores
Given below is a table that highlights the sectional and overall CAT cutoffs. The table has been given in the Eligibility Criteria released by IIM B. The data is based on CAT 2024, for the batch of 2025-27.

IIM Bangalore Shortlisting Process
IIM Bangalore Application Process Stage 1
There are 2 shortlisting rounds that are performed. The first shortlisting is done based on the percentile scores that students have received. The list comprises students that have crossed the minimum eligibility criteria.
Then, a Personal Interview (PI Score) is created and the following weightage is assigned to the parameters.

The CAT score is further broken down and a different weightage is attached to each section. The 55 points are bifurcated as follows:

IIM Bangalore Application Process Stage 2
The second stage of the admissions process at IIMB consists of a personal interview (PI) and a Written Ability Test.
Personal Interview
The PI evaluates on several aspects, such as:
Communication Skills: Expressiveness of thought and wording ability.
Leadership Potential : Past experiences reflect leadership prowess.
Analytical Ability: Problem-solving skills and reasonable logic.
Motivation: Reason for pursuing management study.
This list is not exhaustive and it isn't detailed either. The reason for the same is very easy to understand - the PI process is very personalized. It will be tailored to your CV. The 4 points mentioned above are simply broad areas that will be tested.
Written Ability Test
The duration of the WAT is approximately 30 minutes. The WAT will be evaluated based on the content and style of the note. You will be given a topic and you will have to present a short essay on the same topic in 30 minutes. You will be judged on your clarity of thought, your tone, your ability to explain etc.
Both the WAT and PI will happen on the same day and at the same location. You must note that these are extremely important. The CAT exam was simply the first hurdle.

Tips to Improve Your Chances of IIM Bangalore MBA Admission
- CAT Exam Preparation: Spend quality time for all three sections of CAT. CAT online coaching or online resources and practice through mock tests regularly to build accuracy and speed. You must score above 99%ile and score the same with an evenly distributed score.
- Relevant work experience: Professional experience in the roles that highlight leadership and problem-solving skills will enhance your application. Focus on achievements and responsibilities during the PI. This will further help you during placements. Relevant work experience with quantifiable data goes a long way.
- Develop Communication Skills: Develop verbal and written communication skills. Mock interviews and writing practice will make you ready for the PI and AWT. An advice would be to read articles under a time limit and summarize the same. Such practice goes a long way.
- Exhibit Holistic Growth: Engage in extracurricular activities, community service, or entrepreneurship. Show achievements that will be able to present diverse interests and abilities.
