IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria 2027
IIM Calcutta admission process 2027 will be based on CAT 2026, academic records, diversity, work experience, WAT and PI. But what actually decides your place in the final list? A high CAT score gets you into the race, but the composite score is what actually matters in the selection criteria. IIM Calcutta uses different score combinations at the shortlisting and final selection stages. For the 2027–29 MBA batch, the minimum qualifying CAT cut-off remains 85% for the Open category, with separate sectional requirements. IIM Calcutta has retained the same admission process as for the 2026–28 batch.
IIM Calcutta Admission Process 2027: Key Highlights
The IIM Calcutta MBA admission process has three important stages. First, you need to clear the minimum CAT 2027 percentile requirements. Next, the institute uses your CAT score, Class 10 and 12 marks, and gender diversity for PI and WAT shortlisting.
The final stage gives greater importance to PI, while CAT, WAT, academic diversity and work experience also contribute.
Admission Stage | Parameters Considered | Weightage |
Stage I | CAT 2026 sectional and overall percentile | Qualifying stage |
Stage II | CAT score | 56 |
Class 10 marks | 10 | |
Class 12 marks | 15 | |
Gender diversity | 4 | |
Stage II Total | 85 | |
Final Selection | CAT 2026 score | 30 |
Personal Interview | 48 | |
WAT | 8 | |
Academic diversity | 6 | |
Work experience | 8 | |
Final Total | 100 | |
The institute also requires a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks. For SC, ST and PwD candidates, the minimum is 45%.
Candidates in their final year can also apply, subject to the required documentation and deadlines.

Is There Any Change in the IIM Calcutta Selection Process
There is no major structural change between the 2026–28 and 2027–29 admission frameworks based on the policies available. The same three-stage approach continues, with CAT leading the initial screening.
The key difference is the IIM Calcutta selection criteria. The earlier policy used CAT 2025 for the 2026–28 batch, while the new policy uses CAT 2026 for the 2027–29 batch. The work experience calculation date also moves from January 31, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
Parameter | 2026–28 Batch | 2027–29 Batch |
CAT considered | CAT 2025 | CAT 2026 |
Work experience cut-off | Jan 31, 2026 | Jan 31, 2027 |
PI/WAT shortlisting | CAT + Class 10 + Class 12 + diversity | CAT + Class 10 + Class 12 + diversity |
Stage II weight | 85 | 85 |
Final selection weight | 100 | 100 |
CAT weight in final selection | 30 | 30 |
PI weight | 48 | 48 |
WAT weight | 8 | 8 |
Academic diversity | 6 | 6 |
Work experience | 8 | 8 |
So, there is no change in the IIM Calcutta 2027–29 admission process framework. The score structure remains familiar, although the actual shortlist cut-offs can change.
IIM Calcutta Minimum CAT 2026 Cut Off
IIM Calcutta minimum sectional and overall CAT 2026 percentiles for Stage I remained the same. However, these figures should not be mistaken for the percentile that will actually secure a PI call. The institute clearly states that the actual cut-offs could be higher, depending on the number of candidates called for the interview.
Category | VARC | DILR | QA | Overall |
Open | 80 | 80 | 75 | 85 |
EWS | 70 | 65 | 65 | 75 |
NC-OBC | 70 | 65 | 65 | 75 |
SC | 65 | 60 | 60 | 70 |
ST | 55 | 55 | 55 | 65 |
PwD | 45 | 45 | 45 | 55 |
You must also secure non-negative raw scores in every CAT section to move ahead from Stage I. That distinction matters. Clearing 85 percentile in the Open category does not mean an IIM Calcutta interview call is guaranteed. The institute uses a further composite score to shortlist candidates.

IIM Calcutta PI Shortlisting Criteria
Candidates who clear the Stage I CAT requirements enter the second screening stage. IIM Calcutta then calculates a composite score out of 85 for PI and WAT shortlisting.
CAT score carries the largest share with 56 points. Your Class 10 and Class 12 performance together contribute another 25 points, while gender diversity adds 4 points.
Parameter | Maximum Points |
CAT 2026 score | 56 |
Class 10 marks | 10 |
Class 12 marks | 15 |
Gender diversity | 4 |
Total | 85 |
For CAT, the institute uses the candidate's total scaled score against the maximum possible CAT scaled score. Your academic marks are converted into points using fixed bands.
Marks | Class 10 Points | Class 12 Points |
80% or above | 10 | 15 |
75% to below 80% | 8 | 12 |
70% to below 75% | 6 | 9 |
65% to below 70% | 4 | 6 |
60% to below 65% | 2 | 3 |
Below 60% | 0 | 0 |
For calculating Class 10 and 12 marks, IIM Calcutta considers the aggregate marks of all subjects appearing on the marksheet. This applies even if your board does not use those subjects for its official percentage calculation.
IIM Calcutta Composite Score Calculation
The PI shortlisting composite score is important because CAT percentile alone does not determine the call. A candidate with a strong CAT score can gain additional points through academics and gender diversity.
For the final merit list, however, the weight distribution changes sharply. The Personal Interview receives the highest weight at 48 points.
Parameter | Final Selection Weight |
CAT 2026 score | 30 |
Personal Interview | 48 |
WAT | 8 |
Academic diversity | 6 |
Work experience | 8 |
Total | 100 |
This means the CAT score still matters after the interview call, but its share falls from 56 points during shortlisting to 30 points in final selection.
Academic diversity can add up to 6 points. Non-engineering backgrounds and professional qualifications can receive additional credit, depending on the category applicable to your academic profile.
Academic Background | Points |
Engineering bachelor’s/master’s/integrated engineering degree | 0 |
Non-engineering bachelor’s degree | 4 |
Dual bachelor’s degree in Law | 5 |
Engineering bachelor’s + non-engineering master’s | 2 |
Non-engineering bachelor’s + non-engineering master’s | 5 |
CA/ICWA/CS/FIAI with bachelor’s degree | 6 |
Integrated Law bachelor’s + non-engineering master’s | 6 |
The complete policy contains additional academic categories, so your exact qualification should be checked against the applicable category before calculating the score.

IIM Calcutta Final Selection Criteria 2027
After PI and WAT, IIM Calcutta prepares the final category-wise merit list. The final composite score is calculated out of 100.
The Personal Interview alone carries 48%, making it the biggest component at this stage. WAT contributes 8%, while CAT retains a 30% share.
Work experience can contribute up to 8 points. Only experience gained after completing the bachelor’s degree is considered. Internships, apprenticeships, training, unpaid work and work forming part of a curriculum are not counted.
Completed Work Experience | Points |
Up to 6 months | 0 |
More than 6 to 24 months | x/3 |
More than 24 to 36 months | 8 |
More than 36 to 48 months | 26 − (x/2) |
More than 48 months | 2 |
Here, x represents completed months of eligible work experience as on January 31, 2027.
Your claimed work experience must also be supported with employer documents and payslips. Self-employed candidates and those working in family businesses need to provide suitable registration, licence or tax records when payslips are unavailable.
Finally, meeting the minimum criteria at any stage does not automatically secure admission. IIM Calcutta prepares category-wise merit lists after considering the prescribed composite score.
IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria 2027: Conclusion
The IIM Calcutta selection criteria for the 2027-2029 batch remained the same as the previous year. The minimum Open category requirement remains 85 percentile, but the actual PI call can require a much higher score. Your Class 10 and 12 marks matter during shortlisting, while PI becomes the strongest factor after the call. Academic diversity and eligible work experience can further improve your final composite score.
CAT 2026 gets you into the IIM Calcutta admission shortlist, but your complete profile decides how far you go. Therefore, keep checking official updates while verifying every academic and work-experience detail before submitting documents.
