The Admissions Committee retains final discretion over how an academic programme gets classified. Your raw Composite Score is normalized within your assigned undergraduate discipline. This means your score is compared against the relevant discipline rather than one broad academic pool.
How Is the IIM Ahmedabad Composite Score Calculated for 2027–29?
First, IIMA calculates your Raw Application Rating (AR) by adding A, B, C, D, and E.
Raw Application Rating = A + B + C + D + E
The institute then normalizes this rating using the average of the top 50 AR scores across the applicant pool. The normalized AR contributes 35%, while the CAT total percentile contributes 65%.
Raw Composite Score = 0.35 × Normalized AR + 0.65 × (CAT percentile ÷ 100)
The raw Composite Score is then normalized within your undergraduate discipline. IIMA uses the average of the top 1% raw Composite Scores within that discipline.

To handle very small or very large disciplines, IIMA considers at least 5 and at most 100 scores for the top-1% calculation.
This discipline-wise normalization is a major departure from the earlier Academic Category-based approach.
Has IIM Ahmedabad Removed the Class 10 and 12 Minimum Academic Requirement?
The earlier selection process included a separate P criterion based on Class 10 and Class 12 marks.
P = (Class 10 Percentage + Class 12 Percentage) ÷ 2
The 2026–28 process also prescribed category-wise P thresholds that differed across Science, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities.
However, the new IIM Ahmedabad 2027–29 selection procedure does not list this separate P criterion. Therefore, it is safer to say that the separate P-based shortlisting condition does not appear in the new published procedure.
It should not be stated that IIMA has permanently abolished such requirements beyond this published admission policy.

The presentation of the final selection has changed, however. Earlier, the final score showed CAT at 25% and AR at 15% separately.
