Area Using Horizontal Slices

Area Using Horizontal Slices

If the rightmost and leftmost boundaries are:

$$x=f(y),\quad x=g(y)$$

then the area between $$y=c$$ and $$y=d$$ is:

$$A=\int_c^d|f(y)-g(y)|\,dy$$

Usage

- Used when expressing the curves as functions of $$y$$ makes the area calculation easier.
