Education Qualification

The Eligibility criteria for the CAT exam has remained unchanged. The candidates who hold a recognized bachelor’s degree with an aggregation of 50% (45% for SC/ST and PWD students) , (or candidates having a professional degree like CA / CS / ICWA / Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI) with required percentage) – are eligible for the CAT 2022 examination.

Also, the candidates who are in the final year of their bachelor’s are also eligible to apply for the CAT 2022 examination. They need to submit the required provisional degree at the time of admission to the management institute in which they got selected.

Age Limit

• There is no age limit to taking the CAT 2022 examination.

Reservations in CAT 2022

As per legal requirements, the following percentage of seats are reserved for the respective categories in IIMs.

• 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC)
• 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates
• 27% of the seats are reserved for NC-OBC
• Up to 10% of the seats are reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates.
• 5% of seats are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD).

(EWS is applicable for candidates whose family total income is less than 8.0 lakh per annum.)

Ensure that you have the Caste/EWS certificate handy, as it might be needed at the time of registration.

Registration Fee

Applicants can pay the registration fee through Online mode. The portal for the CAT 2022 registration is available on the official website of IIM. The online payment modes are debit cards (Visa/Master/Rupay), credit cards (Visa/Master/Amex/Diners Club), & net banking. The registration fee for the CAT 2022 is given below for various categories.

Over the past two years (due to the covid pandemic), the CAT exam pattern has been changed. Earlier CAT was conducted in a 3-hour pattern with 1-hour for each section. But, Since 2020, the exam has moved to a 2-hour format. The exam pattern is expected to remain the same for the CAT 2022 examination. The exam pattern for CAT 2022 is as follows.

There will be three sections:

1. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)
2. Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation (LRDI)
3. Quantitative Ability (QA)

Each correct answer is awarded 3 marks, and each wrong answer carries a penalty of -1 mark. Some questions are Type-in-the-answer (TITA) questions. The marking scheme for TITA questions is +3 marks for the correct answer and NO negative marks for the wrong answer. No negative marks for unattempted questions.

Each section has a sectional time limit of 40 minutes, and candidates are not allowed to switch between the sections. Candidates are expected to perform well in all the sections, and most of the institutes accepting CAT scores for admission have sectional cut-offs in addition to overall cut-offs.

CAT Registration/Online Application 2022

• The registration for the CAT 2022 exam will be opened on August 3, 2022, through online mode.
• The last date for the CAT exam 2022 application form is September 14, 2022.
• Your uploaded images (Photo Dimension: 30mm X 45mm) and (Signature Dimension: 35mmX80mm) in a JPG/JPEG format.
• At the time of Exam registration, candidates are required to upload their category certificate (If one belongs to NC- SC/OBC/PWD/ST category).
• At the time of registration, the candidate can choose six test cities as per their option.
• You can also take a CAT application print copy for further use.
