Each Question given below has a problem and two statements numbered I and II giving certain information. You have to decide if the information given in the statements is sufficient for answering the problem.

Question 57

Who is C's partner in a game of cards involving four players A, B, C and D?
I. D is sitting opposite to A.
II. B is sitting right of A and left of D.

We are given a card game involving four players: A, B, C, and D, and we need to determine who is C's partner. In a typical 4-player card game, players sit in a circle, and partners usually sit opposite each other.

Statement I: D is sitting opposite to A.

If D is opposite A, then in a 4-player game (like bridge or other team-based games), partners sit opposite each other. So, A and D are sitting opposite — and thus, they must be partners. Since only four players are involved, the remaining two — B and C — must also be sitting opposite and be the other pair of partners.

Therefore, from Statement I alone, we can conclude that C’s partner is B . Statement I alone is SUFFICIENT

Statement II: B is to the right of A and to the left of D.

That gives us a specific seating order: A → B → D → C .
With that, we can see: B and C are opposite each other (so partners). So, C’s partner is B . Statement II alone is also SUFFICIENT

Since both statements independently allow us to determine who C’s partner is, we can conclude that the correct choice is option C: if the data either in I or II alone are sufficient to answer the question
