Each Question given below has a problem and two statements numbered I and II giving certain information. You have to decide if the information given in the statements is sufficient for answering the problem.
What day is the fourteenth of a given month?
I. The last day of the month is a Wednesday.
II. The third Saturday of the month was seventeenth.
The answer can be found from Statement II alone. If the third Saturday of the month was on the 17th, then the second Saturday was on the 10th, and the first Saturday was on the 3rd. Counting forward, the 14th must be a Thursday.
Statement I, which says the last day of the month is a Wednesday, does not help because the month may have 30 or 31 days and the 14th would fall on different days in each case.
Hence, Statement II alone is sufficient, while Statement I alone is not.
