Okay, real talk — I've watched way too many juniors pick a B-school the way people pick a Netflix show: scroll for 20 mins, panic, click whatever has the shiniest thumbnail. Rank on some list, cousin's friend's LinkedIn post, vibes. Then six months in, they're like "wait, why does nobody visit our campus for placements except one insurance company and Hope."

Here's what I wish someone had drilled into me before I picked:

Who actually shows up, not who's listed on the brochure. Anyone can print a "recruiter list." Ask current students who physically walked onto campus this year.

At the college I study at, IMI Kolkata, we had Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, HDFC Life, ICICI, Reliance, ITC, and Gartner turn up among 100+ others, but I only trusted those numbers after cross-checking with seniors, not the website.

Access to people who aren't professors. Regular classes are the baseline everywhere. What actually moved the needle for me was guest lectures from people who've done the job, not just taught the theory.

Whether the ecosystem lets you build something, not just get placed. If you've got any founder itch, check if there's an actual incubator/accelerator on campus, not a Google Form that says "innovation cell." I know I did that before getting admitted because I wanted to make sure if I ever turned entrepreneur, I would have atleast some support.

The boring stuff — SIPs, safety, library, hostel variety. Nobody talks about it until they're stuck with a single mess menu and a leaking hostel roof. Ask.

Bottom line: don't chase the name. Instead chase the evidence. Talk to 2nd years, not admission brochures. That's the whole hack.
