JoSAA Rank Wise College Predictor

JoSAA allocates seats based on rank, with JEE Main rank deciding admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs and JEE Advanced rank deciding admission to IITs. The predictor maps your category rank against Round 1 seat allotment data across all participating institutes and shows your likelihood of getting each institute-branch combination.

Institute TypeNumber of InstitutesApproximate SeatsApplicable Quota
IITs23Around 17,000All India (AI)
NITs31Around 23,000All India (AI) and Home State (HS)
IIITs26Around 5,000All India (AI)
GFTIs26Around 4,000All India (AI)
Total106Around 49,000

The tool covers all ten category seat pools including OPEN, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, and their PwD variants. For NITs, it also distinguishes between All India quota and Home State quota, which can have meaningfully different closing ranks for the same branch. You can filter results by institute type, quota, state, and round to focus on what applies to your specific situation. Keep up your preparation alongside counselling planning using the JEE Question Bank, which covers topic-wise questions across all three subjects.

How Does the JoSAA College Predictor Work?

The predictor compares your rank directly against the Round 1 opening and closing ranks published by JoSAA 2026. For every institute, branch, category, and quota combination, it evaluates where your rank falls and assigns one of three chance labels to help you read the results quickly.

  • Safe: Your rank is comfortably within the closing rank for that branch and category seat pool.
  • Moderate: Your rank is close to the closing rank. A seat is possible but not certain, and small fluctuations between rounds can affect the outcome.
  • Difficult: Your rank falls outside the closing rank, making allotment unlikely in this round, though the seat may open up in later rounds if candidates withdraw.

These labels are based purely on Round 1 data and give you a realistic picture of where to set your expectations when filling your JoSAA choice order. The predictor does not use averages from previous years, so the chances reflect what actually happened in the current counselling cycle.

How to Use the JoSAA College Predictor by Rank

Follow these six steps to get results that match your profile:

StepWhat to Do
1Select your exam type: JEE Main or JEE Advanced
2Choose your category: OPEN, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, or PwD variant
3Select seat pool: Gender-Neutral or Female-only
4Enter your official category rank
5Apply filters like Round, Institute Type, Quota, and Home State (optional)
6View predicted colleges with Opening Rank, Closing Rank, and Admission Chances

If you are eligible for Home State quota seats at an NIT, it is worth checking both quota types separately. Home State seats often close at noticeably lower ranks than All India seats for the same branch, which can open up options that would not appear if you only checked one quota. Access topic-wise notes, formula sheets, and solved papers through JEE Study Material to stay prepared while counselling rounds are ongoing.

Why Use Cracku's JoSAA College Predictor?

  • Round 1 specific data: Predictions use actual 2026 Round 1 cutoffs, not multi-year averages that may not reflect current competition.
  • All institute types together: IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs are searchable in a single tool without switching between different sources.
  • Branch-level results: Cutoffs are shown at the individual programme level, which is what actually determines allotment rather than institute-level aggregates.
  • Full category coverage: All ten seat pools and both quota types are included so results apply specifically to your eligibility.
  • No cost: The predictor is free to use. Sign in to unlock the complete results view.

How to predict colleges using JoSAA counselling rank?

The first step is confirming which rank applies to you. JEE Main category rank determines eligibility for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. JEE Advanced category rank determines eligibility for IITs. Using the wrong rank will produce inaccurate predictions, so make sure you are entering the right figure before interpreting results.

Once you have confirmed your rank, work through your prediction in three stages:

  • Build your core list: Run the predictor and identify branches showing Safe and Moderate chances. These should form the centre of your preference order, arranged by your branch priority rather than rank alone.
  • Compare quota options: If you have Home State quota access at NITs, check those closing ranks separately. The difference between All India and Home State cutoffs for the same branch can be large enough to change which options are realistic for you.
  • Update after each round: Closing ranks shift between rounds as candidates accept, float, or slide their allotments. Running the predictor again after each round result gives you a more current view of which branches have opened up.

JoSAA 2026 has six allotment rounds. Candidates who receive an allotment in any round must respond online within the deadline by accepting the seat, choosing to float for a better option in the next round, or sliding within the same institute for a different branch. Missing the response window results in the allotment being cancelled. The chance indicators are a guide based on Round 1 data, not a guarantee of allotment. Subsequent rounds sometimes open seats in branches that appeared closed in Round 1, depending on how many candidates exit the process or decline their current seat.
