What Is the Qualifying Marks Requirement?

The qualifying criteria must be understood separately from the final admission cutoff. A candidate meeting the minimum qualifying requirement does not automatically secure a seat.

  • For the existing Sainik Schools, the general qualifying requirement is 25% in each subject and 40% in aggregate for General, Defence and OBC-NCL candidates.
  • SC/ST candidates are exempt from this minimum qualifying requirement under the existing Sainik School rules.
  • Approved New Sainik Schools have separate qualifying provisions, including the minimum requirement for SC/ST candidates.
  • Final admission also depends on merit, seat availability, applicable reservation, medical fitness and document verification.

How to Prepare Using Sainik School Previous Year Papers?

Children need the right practice material, regular guidance and enough time to learn from their mistakes. Instead of solving questions just to finish a paper, students should use every attempt to understand their preparation level.

Step 1: Understand the Sainik School Entrance Exam Syllabus

Start by checking the Sainik Schools entrance exam syllabus for the respective class. Understand the subjects, important topics and concepts that students need to prepare.

For Class 6, give attention to Mathematics, Language, Intelligence and General Knowledge. Class 9 aspirants should cover Mathematics, English, Intelligence, General Science and Social Studies.

Step 2: Attempt a Previous Year Paper

Once students understand the syllabus, they should attempt a previous year paper and check the NCERT solutions.

  • Choose the correct paper for Class 6 or Class 9.
  • Set a timer according to the actual examination duration.
  • Attempt questions independently.
  • Avoid checking solutions while solving the paper.
  • Record the number of questions attempted.

The first attempt is not about achieving a perfect score. It is about understanding where the child stands.

Step 3: Check Performance Analytics and Solutions

After completing a Sainik School online test, students can review their performance analytics and detailed solutions.

This is where the real learning begins. A score alone cannot explain why a student lost marks.

Check the following:

  • Accuracy: How many attempted questions were correct?
  • Subject performance: Which subjects need more attention?
  • Time management: Which sections took longer than expected?
  • Concept clarity: Were mistakes caused by weak concepts or calculation errors?
  • Question selection: Did the student spend too much time on difficult questions?

Parents and teachers can use these observations to guide the next study session.

Step 4: Correct Mistakes and Practise Again

Every incorrect answer is an opportunity to learn something new.

Ask students to understand the solution before attempting a similar question. If a Mathematics problem was difficult, revisit the underlying concept. If a reasoning question caused confusion, practise more questions of the same type.

Students should maintain a mistake notebook with three simple details:

  1. The question they answered incorrectly.
  2. The reason behind the mistake.
  3. The correct approach or formula.

This habit makes revision more meaningful and prevents students from repeating the same errors.

Step 5: Retake the Test and Improve the Score

After revising weak topics, attempt another online test or previous year paper.

Compare the new performance with the previous attempt. Look for improvements in accuracy, time management and subject-wise scores.
