JEE Mains Registration 2027, Form, Fees & Important Dates

JEE Main 2027 is the national-level undergraduate engineering entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced (which governs IIT admissions). The exam is held in two sessions each year: Session 1 in January 2027 and Session 2 in April 2027. The NTA 2027 notification, including the official registration link and information brochure, is expected to be released in October to November 2026 on the official portal jeemain.nta.ac.in. All registration is conducted exclusively online; no offline application mode exists.

Key point on attempts: JEE Main allows a maximum of 6 attempts: 2 sessions per year across 3 consecutive years, starting from the year a candidate first appears in Class 12 boards. Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing in 2027, are eligible for JEE Main 2027. Each session requires a separate registration and a separate fee payment.

JEE Mains Registration 2027

The table below summarises all key parameters of JEE Main 2027. Every date listed is an expected timeline derived from the JEE Main 2025 and 2026 patterns; the official dates will be confirmed in the NTA notification. Candidates should bookmark jeemain.nta.ac.in and check from October 2026 onwards. Session 1 and Session 2 are registered and scored independently; a separate fee payment is required for each. If a candidate appears in both sessions, the best NTA score is used for JoSAA counselling.

Who Can Apply for JEE Mains 2027?

JEE Main 2027 eligibility criteria are expected to follow the established NTA framework. Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing in 2027, are eligible. There is no age limit and no minimum Class 12 percentage to appear for JEE Main. The 75% aggregate rule (65% for SC/ST/PwD) across 5 subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, one Language, one elective) applies only to NIT, IIIT, and GFTI admission via JoSAA, not to JEE Main eligibility itself. Final criteria will be published in the official NTA information brochure.

Criterion

Requirement

Qualifying Examination

Passed or appearing in Class 12 (or equivalent) from a recognised Central or State Board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects

Year of Qualifying Exam

Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing in 2027, are eligible. This is a 3-year window from the year of first Class 12 attempt.

Minimum Marks in Class 12

No minimum percentage is required to appear for JEE Main. However, for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs via JoSAA, candidates must have 75% aggregate across 5 subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, one Language, one elective) or be in the top 20 percentile of their board (65% or top 20 percentile for SC/ST/PwD).

Age Limit

No upper or lower age limit for appearing in JEE Main. IITs via JEE Advanced have a birth-year criterion (born on or after October 1, 2002 for General/OBC/EWS for JEE Advanced 2027; SC/ST/PwD get a 5-year relaxation (born on or after October 1, 1997)).

Maximum Attempts

6 attempts total: 2 sessions per year across 3 consecutive years (counted from the year of first Class 12 attempt).

Nationality

Indian nationals, OCI/PIO cardholders, and foreign nationals are eligible. Category benefits (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD) apply only to Indian nationals with valid certificates.

Papers Available

Candidates may appear for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch), Paper 2B (B.Planning), or a combination, in the same or different sessions.

Previous IIT Admission

Candidates already admitted to an IIT (even if they did not attend) are not eligible for JEE Advanced, but can still appear for JEE Main to access NIT, IIIT, and GFTI admissions.

Documents Required for JEE Mains Registration

All documents must be scanned and ready before starting the application; they cannot be submitted after the form is filled. Incorrect file sizes, wrong formats, or mismatched photographs are the most common causes of form errors. The photograph uploaded must exactly match the one produced at the exam centre; a different photograph results in denial of entry. The table below lists all documents required at the registration stage with their exact specifications.

Document

Format and Specification

Recent passport-size photograph

JPEG format; 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm; white background; face clearly visible; file size 10 KB to 200 KB; same photograph must be carried to the exam centre

Candidate's signature

JPEG format; black or blue ink on white paper; no smudging; file size 4 KB to 30 KB

Class 10 and Class 12 academic details

Text data entry only (roll number, marks, board name, year of passing); no Class 10 or Class 12 certificates or mark sheets are uploaded on the NTA portal at any stage

Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD)

Mandatory at the time of application to claim reservations or fee concessions; must align exactly with the central government prescribed format; PwD certificate must confirm a minimum of 40% disability from a recognised medical authority

PwD certificate (if applicable)

Issued by a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) or designated government medical authority; confirms minimum 40% disability

Valid government-issued photo ID

Aadhaar card strongly recommended as the primary identity document. Candidates who register using a non-Aadhaar ID (Passport, Voter ID, Driving Licence, School or College ID, or PAN Card) are required to report to the examination centre 1 hour earlier than the standard reporting time for mandatory physical biometric verification at the centre.

Valid email ID and mobile number

Used for all NTA communications, OTP verification, and login credentials; must remain accessible throughout the admission cycle

Step-by-Step Process to Fill the JEE Mains Application Form

The JEE Main 2027 application form is filled entirely online at jeemain.nta.ac.in. Incomplete applications not submitted before the deadline are invalid. After submission, NTA opens a brief correction window (typically 2 to 3 days) for editing exam city preference, paper selection, and personal details; category, nationality, and date of birth cannot be changed. No new registrations are accepted during the correction window. The complete 10-step process is outlined below.

JEE Mains Registration 2027: Conclusion

JEE Mains registration 2027 is expected to begin in October to November 2026 for Session 1, while Session 2 registration is expected around February 2027. Candidates must complete the application process online through jeemain.nta.ac.in, including registration, form filling, document upload, and fee payment. Since NTA does not usually allow late registration, students should keep all required documents ready before the application window opens.

Students planning to appear for JEE Main 2027 should carefully check the eligibility criteria, expected exam dates, fee structure, and document requirements before applying. Along with registration updates, aspirants should continue practising JEE questions, previous year papers, and subject-wise question banks to improve speed, accuracy, and confidence before the exam.
