JEE Main 2027 Session 1 Exam Dates Revised
JEE Main 2027 Session 1 will now be conducted on January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28, 2027. The latest NTA notification places the first examination day two days earlier than the January 22 start proposed in the September examination calendar.
The JEE Mains 2027 Notification, released on October 24, 2026, provides the updated examination dates along with registration, correction, city intimation and admit card schedules. Candidates should use this newer schedule when planning their preparation.
The change matters if you have built your revision timetable around January 22. Aim to complete your final revision before January 20, since your allotted examination could fall on the opening day. The announced dates cover the overall session; your individual examination date and shift will be specified separately.
JEE Main 2027 Session 1 Old vs Revised Dates
NTA’s examination calendar dated September 16, 2026, proposed January 22–24 and January 28–30 for Session 1, with January 31 as a buffer day. The October notification lists a different set of six examination dates.
| Particulars | Earlier Calendar | Latest Notification |
|---|---|---|
| Notice date | September 16, 2026 | October 24, 2026 |
| Examination dates | January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 | January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 |
| First examination day | January 22, 2027 | January 20, 2027 |
| Last listed examination day | January 30, 2027 | January 28, 2027 |
| Number of listed examination days | Six | Six |
| Buffer date | January 31, 2027 | No buffer date specified |
January 20 and 21 have been added, while January 29 and 30 are absent from the latest schedule. January 22, 23, 24 and 28 remain common to both.
This is not a postponement: the session begins earlier. Also, January 31 should not be presented as a confirmed examination day because the latest notification does not list it.
Why Did NTA Revise the JEE Main 2027 Exam Dates?
The October 24 notification does not state a specific reason for changing the dates. Therefore, attributing the revision to another examination, a holiday or centre availability would be speculation.
The September notice clearly described its calendar as tentative. It explained that dates could change because of administrative, academic, statutory, logistical or unforeseen circumstances. These were general conditions attached to the calendar, not an explanation for this particular revision.
The earlier notice also clarified that the calendar was not an examination-specific notification and that detailed notices would follow separately.
For candidates, the practical takeaway is straightforward: follow the newer examination-specific schedule and check subsequent NTA announcements. There is no need to rebuild your entire preparation strategy, but your final revision deadline should reflect the earlier start.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Shift Timings
The notification provides the following shift timings for three-hour examinations and the combined B.Arch and B.Planning examination. All timings below are in Indian Standard Time (IST).
| Examination Duration | First Shift | Second Shift |
|---|---|---|
| Three hours | 9:00 AM–12:00 noon | 3:00 PM–6:00 PM |
| Three hours and 30 minutes | 9:00 AM–12:30 PM | 3:00 PM–6:30 PM |
Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech has a three-hour duration. The combined B.Arch and B.Planning examination has a duration of three hours and 30 minutes.
This general timing table does not mean every paper will be held in both shifts on every listed date. Check your allotted paper, date and shift when the relevant candidate information becomes available.
Also, distinguish examination time from reporting time. Plan your arrival using the instructions on your admit card rather than treating the examination start time as your arrival deadline.
What Should Candidates Do After the Date Revision?
Start by updating your calendar, then make small, practical changes to your preparation.
- Move your readiness deadline forward. Plan to finish your main revision before January 20. Avoid depending on the later examination dates for completing essential chapters.
- Adjust your mock schedule. Bring your final full-length practice tests forward where necessary. Leave enough time to analyse mistakes rather than squeezing additional mocks into the last few days.
- Prioritise recurring errors. Review your error log, formula notes and questions you previously answered incorrectly. Use the revised timeline to identify what needs attention first.
- Complete application formalities separately. Keep registration and payment tasks outside your daily study targets so that neither gets overlooked during preparation.
- Check travel arrangements carefully. Review any bookings made using the earlier calendar. Use your allotted city and examination details before finalising centre-specific travel plans.
- Follow official updates. Check jeemain.nta.nic.in and nta.ac.in for further notices. When sharing dates with classmates, include the notice date to avoid circulating the older schedule.
The immediate priority is to prepare for an examination session beginning on January 20 while keeping application deadlines on track.
JEE Main 2027 Session 1 Revised Exam Dates: Conclusion
The JEE Main 2027 Session 1 revised exam dates are January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28, 2027. The session starts two days earlier than the previous tentative schedule, so candidates should update their preparation calendars accordingly.
