Let the ratio of the ages of X and Y three years ago be 4k and 5k So, their ages now are 4k+3 and 5k+3 Their ages after three years will be 4k+6 and 5k+6 They are in the ratio 5:6 So, (4k+6)*6 = (5k+6)*5 Or k = 6 Hence, their ages today are 4k+3, 5k+3 = 27 and 33 And the sum is 60
