The state where the first mosque was built in India is Kerala. It was built in 629 AD in Thrissur.
In the ancient days, there used to be a lot of trade between the Western coast of India and the middle East. Many of the traders used to come from Saudi Arabia to trade goods and spices in Kerala. One such trader was Malik Dinar was a companion of Mohammed. In order to encourage more trade with the Arabs, the Chera King, Cheruman Permual allowed the mosque to be built there.
