Hi sir,
I understand your dismay, but there is a reason for this.
A sectional cut-off exists since there is a need to filter
There is a need to filter since CAT has tremendous competition
There is a total of 5000 seats in all IIMs. Yet about 2,50,000 students write the test
This means, every 1 in 50 student gets selected
If we compare this with top colleges abroad, say harward/Wharton/MIT
Even they have a ratio of students converting to total registrations between 1:8 to 1:15.
Due to this tremendous competition, a general-engineer-male candidate is unlikely to get IIM ABC calls even at 99.5percentile sometimes.
Yet, please do not worry sir.
There are plenty of other good colleges he can target.
Please let us know about his profile/acads/work-ex, we can make a comprehensive analysis
