"Mother and son's ages are in the ratio 7:8" Hows that even possible.? Let us suppose that age of mother is 7 X 5 = 35 then the age of son is 8 X 5= 40.This is impossible. Please check the question.

Mother's and son's age cannot be in 7:8 ratio. Let assume you the person had made a typo and the actual ratio's are M:S = 8 : 7 (->equation 1) and F:S is = 8:5. then S:F = 5:8 (->equation 2).
Multiplying equ 1 with 5 and equation 2 with 7. We get M:S = 40:35. and S:F = 35: 56. and combing both we get 40:35:56. So M:F = 40:56 or F:M = 56:40.
