Quant Question involving 2 Eqn. and 3 variables

Hi,
I am really confused about how to go solving question that involves two equations and three variables, and third equation value we need to find out.
I try going the standard way of making equation in 2 variable of a and b, solving but never get to the answer and also end up wasting time.
Can please help on how to approach such problem.

Thanks

Hi Sarthak, The key is to avoid solving for all three variables individually. If you have two equations with three variables, look at what the question is asking you to find. Try multiplying or adding/subtracting the equations in a way that eliminates one or more variables and directly gives you the required expression. Often, the third variable doesn't need to be calculated at all.

Hope this helps

use basic mathematics operations with the two equations given and try to make it similar or same as the one you need to find solution to. for example if you want to find the value of 3x+y+8Z (eq3) and it is given that x+2y+z = 10 (eq1) , x+y+z=6 (eq2), try putting the two equations in the form m(eq1) + n(eq2) = (eq3) then solve for m and n

or, set an arbitrary value for any one variable and eliminate it but that is something you'll have to guess smartly. whatever works for you
