Determinant of a $$2\times2$$ Matrix

## Formula

For:

$$A=\begin{bmatrix}a&b\\c&d\end{bmatrix}$$

the determinant is:

$$|A|=ad-bc$$

## Usage

- Used to determine invertibility and calculate the inverse of a $2\times2$ matrix.

Question 1

Given that $$A$$ and $$P$$ are square matrices of order 2 such that $$P + P^T = 0$$ and $$A + 2P = 3I$$, then the least value of $$\det(A)$$ is (Assume elements of matrix $$P$$ are real numbers).

Question 2

Let $$X=\begin{pmatrix}a&b\\ c&-a\end{pmatrix}$$ be a $$2\times2$$ matrix with real entries satisfying $$X^2=I,$$ where $$I$$ is the identity matrix. If $$X\ne I$$ and $$\det(X)=1,$$ then the number of such matrices of the form $$\begin{pmatrix}a&b\\ c&-a\end{pmatrix}$$ with $$a,b,c\in\{-1,0,1\}$$ is:
