Equality of Matrices

## Definition / Concept

Two matrices are equal if they have the same order and their corresponding elements are equal.

For:

$$A=[a_{ij}]$$

and:

$$B=[b_{ij}]$$

we have:

$$A=B\iff a_{ij}=b_{ij}$$

for every corresponding pair of elements.

## Usage

- Used to compare matrices and find unknown entries.

If the system of equations $$\begin{aligned} 2x - y + z &= 4, \\ 5x + \lambda y + 3z &= 12, \\ 100x - 47y + \mu z &= 212 \end{aligned}$$ has infinitely many solutions, then $$\mu - 2\lambda$$ is equal to:
