Distributive Properties of Matrix Multiplication

## Formula

$$A(B+C)=AB+AC$$

and:

$$(A+B)C=AC+BC$$

## Usage

- Used to expand matrix products involving sums.

Question 1

Let $$A$$ and $$B$$ be two $$3 \times 3$$ real symmetric matrices such that $$AB = BA$$. If $$A^2 = B^2 = I$$ and $$\det(A) \neq \det(B)$$, find $$\det(A + B)$$ if $$\det(A-B) \ne 0$$

Question 2

If $$A$$ and $$B$$ are non-singular matrices of the same order, find the inverse of $$X = A(\operatorname{adj}(A^{-1}) + \operatorname{adj}(B^{-1}))^{-1}B$$.
