Bijapur is known for Gol Gumbaz. It is the mausoleum of King Mohammed Adil Shah, Sultan of Bijapur. The name is based on Gola gummata derived from Gol Gombadh meaning "circular dome". It follows the style of Deccan architecture. It is the second largest dome in the world after St Peter's Basilica in Rome. This massive dome measures 124 feet in diameter.
