Are Specialised Career Tracks the Future of PGDM Programmes?

While exploring PGDM options for 2026–27, I think we often focus on placements, fees and rankings but overlook one important question: Does the programme align with the career we want?

Traditionally, PGDMs have offered broad specialisations like Finance, Marketing, HR and Operations. But with companies hiring for specific roles in Consulting, Product Management, Analytics, Growth, Strategy and FinTech, career-focused tracks are becoming increasingly relevant.

For instance, IMI Kolkata offers tracks such as Consulting & Strategy, Market Expansion & Growth, Finance & Capital Markets, Product Management, Analytics, Operations & Supply Chain, and People & Organisation.

I find this approach interesting because it can help students connect their management education with a specific career direction, while still building a strong business foundation.

So, for fellow CAT aspirants:

Would you prefer a traditional specialisation or a career-oriented track? What would influence your choice?
