A cistern can be filled by two pipes A and B in 7.5 hrs. They are opened for 2.5 hrs and then B is closed. A alone now requires 6 2/3 hr more to fill cistern. How long would A take to fill the cistern working alone?

10 hrsin 7.5 hrs they fill capacity of 1therefore in 2.5 hrs they will fill 1/3 capacitynow, remaining 2/3 is to be filled by A in 20/3 hrstherefore the whole capacity of 1 can be filled in 20/3 * 3/2 = 10 hrs
