Aman started a business investing Rs. 70000. Rakhi joined him after six months with an amount of Rs. 105000 and Sagar joined them with Rs. 1.4 lakhs after another six months. The amount of profit earned should be distributed in what ratio among Aman, Rakhi and Sagar respectively, 3 years after Aman started the business?
Aman invested in the business for a complete 3 years = 36 months
Rakhi had joined 6 months after Aman $$\Rightarrow$$ Rakhi invested for total of 30 months
Sagar had joined 6 months after Rakhi $$\Rightarrow$$ Sagar invested for total of 24 months
Ratio of profits = Ratio of (investment $$\times$$ time period)
$$\therefore$$ Aman : Rakhi : Sagar = (70,000 $$\times$$ 36) : (105,000 $$\times$$ 30) : (140,000 $$\times$$ 24)
$$\Rightarrow$$ Aman : Rakhi : Sagar = (70 $$\times$$ 6) : (105 $$\times$$ 5) : (140 $$\times$$ 4)
$$\Rightarrow$$ Aman : Rakhi : Sagar = (2 $$\times$$ 6) : (3 $$\times$$ 5) : (4 $$\times$$ 4)
$$\Rightarrow$$ Aman : Rakhi : Sagar = 12 : 15 : 16
Hence, option A is the correct choice.
A man bought some oranges at Rs.10 per dozen and bought the same number of oranges at Rs.8 per dozen. He sold these oranges at Rs.11 per dozen and gained Rs.120. The total number of oranges bought by him was?
Let the man bought 'b' dozens of oranges at Rs 10 per dozen.
CP$$_1$$ = 10a
He also bought the same number, i.e., 'b' dozens, of oranges at Rs 8 per dozen.
CP$$_2$$ = 8a
Total CP = 10a + 8a = 18a
Now he sold all the oranges at Rs 11 per dozen.
Total SP = 11 $$\times$$ 2a = 22a
Profit = Total SP - Total CP = 22a - 18a = 4a
$$\therefore$$ 4a = 120 $$\Rightarrow$$ a = 30
Total oranges bought = 2a dozens = 60 dozens
Hence, option D is the correct choice

Eight pipes are fitted to a water tank. Some of these are water pipes to fill the tank and the remaining are waste pipes used to empty the tank. Each water pipe can fill the tank in 12 hours and each waste pipe can empty it in 36 hours. On opening all the pipes an empty tank is filled in 3 hours. The number of waste pipe is?
Let the number of filling pipes = f
Let the number of waste pipes = w
f + w = 8 ----(1)
Each fill pipe completely fills the empty tank in 12 hours
Each waste pipe empties the completely filled tank in 36 hours
Let total volume of tank = LCM (12, 360) = 36 units
$$\therefore$$ Efficiency of fill pipe = 36/12 = 3 units/hour
$$\therefore$$ Efficiency of waste pipe = 36/36 = 1 unit/hour
Volume of tank filled by 'f' fill pipes and 'w' waste pipes = (3f - w) units/hour
It is given that the tank gets filled in 3 hours
$$\therefore$$ 3 $$\times$$ (3f - w) = 36
$$\therefore$$ 3f - w = 12 ----(2)
Adding (1) and (2), we get,
4f = 20 $$\Rightarrow$$ f = 5
$$\therefore$$ w = 8 - f = 3
Hence, option A is the correct choice.
A company produces on an average 4000 items per month for the first 3 months. How many items it must produce on an average per month over the next 9 months, to average 4375 items per month over the whole?
The company produces on average 4000 items per month for the first 3 months
$$\therefore$$ Total items produced in the first 3 months = 4000 $$\times$$ 3 = 12000
Let the company produce on average x items per month for the first 9 months
$$\therefore$$ Total items produced in the next 9 months = x $$\times$$ 9 = 9x
It needs to average 4375 items per month over the whole.
$$\therefore$$ Total items prouduced in 12 months = 4375 $$\times$$ 12 = 52500
$$\Rightarrow$$ 12000 + 9x = 52500
$$\Rightarrow$$ 9x = 40500
$$\Rightarrow$$ x = 4500
Hence, option C is the correct choice.
A number is doubled and 9 is added. If the resultant is trebled, it becomes 75. What is that number?
Let the number = N
It is doubled $$\Rightarrow$$ 2N
9 is added $$\Rightarrow$$ 2N + 9
It is trebled $$\Rightarrow$$ (2N + 9) $$\times$$ 3 = 6N + 27
$$\therefore$$ 6N + 27 = 75
$$\Rightarrow$$ 6N = 48 $$\Rightarrow$$ N = 8
Hence, option B is the correct choice.

Three numbers are in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5
Let the numbers be 3k, 4k and 5k
LCM(3k, 4k , 5k) = 60k
60k = 2400 $$\Rightarrow$$ k = 40
The numbers are 120, 160, 200
$$\therefore$$ HCF(120, 160, 200) = 40
Hence, option C is the correct choice

From a group of 7 men and 6 women, 5 persons are to be selected to form a committee so that at least 3 men are there on the committee. In how many ways can it be done?
We have to select at least $$3$$ men.
So we can either select $$3$$, $$4$$ or $$5$$ men
Case 1: $$3$$ Men, $$2$$ Women
Total number of ways = $$^7C_3 \times ^6C_2 = 35 \times 15 = 525$$
Case 2: $$4$$ Men, $$1$$ Woman
Total number of ways = $$^7C_4 \times ^6C_1 = 35 \times 6 = 210$$
Case 3: $$5$$ Men, $$0$$ Woman
Total number of ways = $$^7C_5 \times ^6C_0 = 21 \times 1 = 21$$
Total number of ways = $$525 + 210 + 21 = 756$$
Hence, option D is the correct choice.
The difference between the ages of two men is 10 years. 15 years ago, the elder one was twice as old as the younger one. The present age of the elder man is?
Let A and B be two men, and let A be older than B
15 years ago, A's age was twice that of B.
Let 15 years ago, B's age = x
$$\therefore$$ 15 years ago, A's age = 2x
Difference between ages = 2x - x = x = 10 (given)
Present age of A = 2x + 15 = 35 yrs
Hence, option A is the correct choice.
The average weight of a class of 24 students is 35 kg. If the weight of the teacher be included, the average rises by 400 g. The weight of the teacher is?
Average weight of class of 24 students = 35 kg
Total weight of students = 24 $$\times$$ 35 = 840 kg
When the weight of the teacher is added, the average becomes = 35.4
$$\therefore$$ Total weight of class = 25 $$\times$$ 35.4 = 885 kg
$$\therefore$$ Weight of teacher = 885 - 840 = 45 kg
Hence, option C is the correct choice
The number which exceeds 16% of it by 42 is?
Let the number be N
Now N exceeds 16% of itself by 42
$$\therefore$$ N = (16% of N) + 42

$$\Rightarrow$$ 0.84N = 42
$$\Rightarrow$$ N = 50
Hence, option C is the correct choice
Sanket purchased 20 dozen notebooks at Rs 48 per dozen. He sold 8 dozen at 10% profit and the remaining 12 dozen with 20% profit. What is his profit percentage in the transaction?
20 dozen notebooks at Rs 48 per dozen
Total cost = 20 $$\times$$ 48 = 960
He sold 8 dozen at 10% profit
$$\therefore$$ Profit from 8 dozen = 8 $$\times$$ 48 $$\times$$ 0.1 = 38.4
He sold 12 dozen at 20% profit
$$\therefore$$ Profit from 12 dozen = 12 $$\times$$ 48 $$\times$$ 0.2 = 115.2
Total Profit = 38.4 + 115. 2= 153.6
Profit percentage = 153.6/960 $$\times$$ 100 = 16%
Hence, option B is the correct choice.
Ten percent of twenty plus twenty percent of ten equals?
Ten percent of twenty = $$\dfrac{10}{100} \times 20 = \dfrac{200}{100}$$
Twenty percent of ten = $$\dfrac{20}{100} \times 10 = \dfrac{200}{100}$$
$$\therefore$$ sum = $$ \dfrac{200}{100} + \dfrac{200}{100}$$ = $$\dfrac{2}{100} \times 200$$
This is equal to $$2\%$$ of $$200$$
Hence, option D is the correct choice.
By selling 45 lemons for Rs.40, a man loses 20%. How many should he sell for Rs.24 to gain 20% in the transaction?
By selling 45 lemons for Rs. 40, a man loses 20%
Thus, the cost price of lemons = 40/0.8 = Rs 50
Cost price of 1 lemon = 50/45 = Rs 10/9
Now he sells some lemons for Rs 24 and gains 20%
Thus, the cost price of lemons sold = 24/1.2 = Rs 20
Number of lemons that can be bought in Rs 20 = 20 / (10/9) = 18
Thus, option A is the correct choice.

Of 132 examinees of a certain school, the ratio of successful to unsuccessful candidates is 9:2. If 4 more students had passed, what would have been the ratio of successful to unsuccessful students?
Out of 132 examinees of a certain school, the ratio of successful to unsuccessful candidates is 9:2
Let successful candidates = 9x
Let unsuccessful candidates = 2x
$$\therefore$$ 9x + 2x = 132
$$\therefore$$ 11x = 132 $$\Rightarrow$$ x = 12
$$\Rightarrow$$ Successful candiates = 108
$$\Rightarrow$$ Unsuccessful candidates = 24
Now, 4 more candidates pass
$$\therefore$$ Successful candidtes = 112
$$\therefore$$ Unsuccessful candidates = 20
$$\Rightarrow$$ Ratio = 112 : 20 = 28 :
Hence option B is the correct choice

Educational planning should aim at meeting the educational needs of the entire population of all age groups. While the traditional structure of education as a three layer hierarchy from the primary stage to the university represents the core, we should not overlook the periphery which is equally important. Under modern conditions, workers need to rewind, or renew their enthusiasm. or strike out in a new direction, or improve their skills as much as any university professor. The retired and the aged have their needs as well. Educational planning, in their words, should take care of the needs of every-one.
Our structures of education have been built up on the assumption that there is a terminal point to education. This basic defect has become all the more harmful today. A UNESCO report entitled 'Learning to Be' prepared by Edgar Faure and others in 1973 asserts that the education of children must prepare the future adult for various forms of self-learning. A viable education system of the future should consist of modules with different kinds of functions serving a diversity of constituents. And performance, not the period of study, should be the basis for credentials. The writing is already on the wall.
In view of the fact that the significance of a commitment of lifelong learning and lifetime education is being discussed only in recent years even in educationally advanced countries, the possibility of the idea becoming an integral part of educational thinking seems to be a far cry. For, to move in that direction means much more than some simple rearrangement of the present organization of education. But a good beginning can be made by developing Open University programs for older learners of different categories and introducing extension services in the conventional colleges and schools. Also these institutions should learn to cooperate with the numerous community organizations such as libraries , museums, municipal recreational programmes, health services etc.
What is the main thrust of the author?
According to the author, education plan should attempt to
Which of the following is most opposite in meaning to the phrase 'a far cry' as used in the passage?
According to the author, what measures should Open University adopt to meet modern conditions?

Journalism combines writing with news gathering and interpretation. While the journalists' work obviously varies from newspaper to newspaper and from magazine to magazine, all journalists are as much research workers, as they are writers. They cannot write their news or feature stories, unless they locate it and research them first. They must be able to read the in-between lines of the main-source news and interpret that. A great many stories hunt the journalist, who rejects most of them. He carefully sorts and sifts those, taking only a relatively very small proportion of news may be, coming from an unexpected source. A successful journalist may gather news to the tune of 100 per cent but he can use them for his profession only 3-5 per cent. He must be able to see or forecast to him, the news of tomorrow or the day after. from the news of today; because newspapers want advance news or advance warning to give a good, exclusive and exhaustive coverage to anything of interest. But a real 'scoop' is a very rare event. And bogus scoops also bring disrepute to the newspaper.
Acording to the passage, a journalist's work does not include
What is the basic requisite for exclusive and exhaustive coverage of newspapers?
What does the passage say about the successful journalists?
What according to the passage is the common charectaristic of all journalists?
What is most important for a journalist?
