Circle - Chord Properties

Rarely Tested

  1. The perpendicular drawn from the centre of a circle to a chord bisects the chord. Conversely, the line joining the mid-point of a chord and the centre of the circle is perpendicular to the chord.
  2. Chords that are equal are equidistant from the centre of the circle. Conversely, if the lengths of perpendiculars from the centre of the circle to two chords are equal, the chords are equal.
  3. The length of a chord keeps increasing as it moves closer to the centre of the circle, with the diameter being the largest chord.
