Thermal Expansion

Increase in dimensions of a body due to increase in temperature is called thermal expansion.

### Linear Expansion

$$\Delta L=\alpha L\Delta T$$

### Final Length

$$L=L_0(1+\alpha\Delta T)$$

### Terminologies

- Ξ”L β†’ Change in length.

- Lβ‚€ β†’ Original length.

- Ξ± β†’ Coefficient of linear expansion.

- Ξ”T β†’ Change in temperature.

### SI Unit of Ξ±

$$K^{-1}$$

### Dimensions

$$[\alpha]=[K^{-1}]$$

### Usage

- Used in thermal expansion problems.
