Properties that describe the state of a thermodynamic system are called thermodynamic variables.

### Intensive Properties

$$Independent\ of\ amount\ of\ substance$$

Examples:

$$Temperature,\ Pressure,\ Density$$

### Extensive Properties

$$Dependent\ on\ amount\ of\ substance$$

Examples:

$$Mass,\ Volume,\ Internal\ Energy$$

### Terminologies

- State Variable β†’ Property that depends only on present state.

- Path Variable β†’ Quantity dependent on process path.
