RMO 2026

RMO 2026 stands for Regional Mathematical Olympiad 2026. It forms the second stage of India's Mathematical Olympiad programme. Students reach RMO after qualifying through IOQM 2026. HBCSE has scheduled RMO for November 15, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The 3 hour examination contains six problems that require detailed mathematical proofs.

Students targeting RMO must first clear the official IOQM to RMO selection process. The RMO qualification rules use regional rankings and separate student categories. RMO 2026 Important Dates

RMO 2026 is scheduled for November 15, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Students must first appear for IOQM 2026 on September 6, 2026. HBCSE applies the regional selection rules after the first-stage examination. Students can check the IOQM Exam Date 2026 for the first-stage schedule.

As of August 31, IOQM 2026 is still upcoming. HBCSE has not yet determined the RMO qualifier list through IOQM results. 2026 official RMO result dates are yet to be out. INMO 2027 follows RMO and is scheduled for January 17, 2027. The table below summarises the important RMO 2026 dates and their current status.

RMO 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Students cannot enter RMO 2026 through direct open registration. They must qualify through IOQM 2026 under HBCSE's selection criteria. Candidates need at least 10% of the total IOQM marks for consideration. But the minimum score does not guarantee RMO qualification. Category A covers Classes 8 to 11. Category B covers students enrolled in Class 12.

Each region selects the top 200 Category A candidates, including ties at position 200. Each region also selects the top 40 Category B candidates, including ties at position 40. 5 additional Category A girls qualify under the Girls' quota, including ties at 5th place. Category B has no separate Girls' quota. Overseas students do not count when officials generate regional cutoffs. The table below summarises how candidates qualify for RMO 2026 through IOQM 2026.

RMO Exam Pattern 2026

RMO 2026 has 6 proof-based problems to be solved within three hours. Students write detailed mathematical solutions rather than marking answers on an OMR sheet. HBCSE requires a detailed proof for every problem in the examination. Regional Coordinators may offer papers in English, Hindi, and suitable regional languages.

A numerical answer only does not meet the main requirement of an RMO solution. Students need logical steps, valid arguments, and enough justification for each conclusion. RMO Syllabus 2026

RMO preparation focuses mainly on Algebra, Geometry, Number Theory, and Combinatorics. HBCSE also expects familiarity with NCERT Mathematics from Classes 8 to 10. RMO problems test non routine reasoning rather than a fixed school style chapter pattern. HBCSE states that Olympiad difficulty rises from RMO through INMO to IMO.

  • Algebra includes inequalities, progressions, equations, polynomials, functional equations, and sequences. Geometry covers triangles, circles, Euclidean constructions, coordinate geometry, vectors, Ceva, and Menelaus.
  • Number Theory includes divisibility, congruences, Euclidean algorithms, Diophantine equations, and classical number-theory results.
  • Combinatorics covers counting, pigeonhole principle, recursion, and elementary graph theory.
