NMAT 2026 Exam Day Guidelines
NMAT is conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) as a computer-adaptive test. The test is taken in Pearson VUE test centres and other partner test centres designated across India. Your test session time is controlled by high-security test centres with set operational procedures. Every single year, qualified candidates experience unnecessary stress due to the fact that they failed to check the requirements,i.e carrying an unacceptable ID or forgetting required documents or wearing digital gadgets.
NMAT 2026 Exam Day Documents Required
All candidates are identified by test administrators prior to admission. Entry without these documents is not permitted.
1. NMAT 2026 Admit Card
- For use by candidates when taking the exam: A4 hard copy from the official NMAT by GMAC dashboard.
- Must be in digital format - on a smartphone or tablet. Sorry, no digital format.
- The photograph printed on the admit card should be neat and distinguishable.
Note: Only download and print a new admit card if you have booked a retake slot. Old admit cards from a previous attempt are not valid.
2. Valid government-issued photo ID proof (originals only)
You must bring a valid, unexpired government identity card. Please note that your name and your picture should match your admit card for NMAT.
Accepted Primary Photo IDs:
- Passport issued by the Government of India
- PAN Card
- Aadhaar Card / UID Voter ID Card
- Valid Driver's License (Permanent)
Keep 2 ID Cards from the Government (such as PAN Card plus Aadhaar Card or Passport). It doesn't harm to have an additional ID.
Not Accepted Documents in the Exam Centre:
- Learner's Driver's License Photocopies (Attested/unattested)
- Digital/Soft copies (including DigiLocker on mobile)
- Notarised paper copies
- IDs with childhood or unidentifiable photographs
NMAT 2026 Reporting Time and Entry Rules
Punctuality is uncompromising at Pearson VUE and GMAC-authorized facilities. The test centre operates on tightly synchronized server slots.
Parameter | Specification | Purpose / Candidate Impact |
Mandatory Reporting Time | 45 minutes prior to slot start | Completes biometric registration, security scan, and locker assignment. |
Verification Gate Closure | 15 minutes prior to slot start | The central server closes the admission batch; latecomers are strictly denied entry. |
Duration of the Test | 120 minutes (2 Hours) | Non-stop adaptive testing without scheduled intermissions. |
Biometric Authentication | Digital photo capture & signature | Creates an authenticated audit trail tied to your B-school application profile. |
NMAT 2026 Dress Code and Prohibited Items
GMAC doesn't specify a formal uniform, but the security guidelines say you should wear clothing that can't hide unauthorized materials or devices. Dressing improperly can lead to an annoyance: holdups during the walk-through frisk.
Suggested Dress Code:
Clothes: Plain, comfortable clothing, including basic T-shirts, normal shirts, standard jeans or trousers.
Avoid Metal Elements: Do not wear clothing with large metallic buttons, fancy metallic zippers, chains or large belt buckles, as they can set off the metal detector and are time-consuming to check.
Footwear: Flat sandals, basic sneakers and flip-flops. Do not wear shoes with thick soles or advanced "cup" shoes.
Jewellery & Ornaments: Do not wear heavy jewellery, thick bangles, metal rings, brooches, or lockets.
Headwear: Caps, hats and beanies are not allowed, except religious headgear by candidates (which must go through normal security screening).
Strictly Prohibited Items:
Category | Prohibited Items (Zero-Tolerance) |
Electronics & Gadgets | Mobile phones, smartwatches, digital bands, standalone calculators, Bluetooth headsets, pen drives, fitness trackers. |
Stationery | Personal blank rough paper, notebooks, textbooks, geometry kits, pencil pouches, personal pens, markers. |
Personal Accessories | Wallets, clutches, backpacks, sunglasses, metallic keychains, cosmetic items, lip balms. |
Edibles & Liquids | Snacks, chewing gum, chips, opaque thermos flasks. (Only transparent water bottles with labels removed are permitted inside the hall). |
NMAT 2026 Exam Centre Rules: Do's and Don'ts
Use these performance-enhancing rules below to prepare your brain and body to do your best before, during, and after your test session:
The Essential Do's
Locate the Test Centre 24 Hours in Advance: Don't get lost on lonely arterial roads on test day. Use Google Maps for the precise building, parking, and morning peak-hour bottlenecks.
Test the Terminal Hardware Immediately: As soon as you take your seat at your assigned desk, look at your mouse, keyboard and monitor.
Click the mouse buttons, scroll and look for flickering images on the monitor. If your mouse is frozen or the screen lags during the first instruction screen, inform your invigilator immediately to reallocate you to a workstation before the time begins.
Track the On-Screen Clock Closely: Notice the digital clock in the corner of your screen. You should take about 45 seconds to 1 minute for a Language Skills question, and about 1.4 minutes to complete a Quantitative Skills question.
Attempt Every Single Question: There is no negative marking in the NMAT. Even if you are unable to solve a tough question of probability or critical reasoning question and the sectional timer has 30 seconds left, then try to eliminate some of the options and make an educated guess. Do not leave any question.
Cooperate Fully with Center Staff: While being frisked and having your documents scanned, maintain your composure. You cannot get away with anything because the examiners follow GMAC's rules to the letter.
The Critical Don'ts
Do Not Pre-Sign the Admit Card at Home: If you attempt to do so and register it at the registration counter, it may be rejected, and a new admit card may be issued.
Interacting with Other Candidates: Any vocalization or head turning toward neighbouring computer screens is malpractice. Labs are subject to full overhead CCTV monitoring.
Do Not Carry Outside Scratch Sheets or Pens: Don't write down formulae or notes on your palms or clothes, onto the margins of your admit card or give your paper to some other student or bring in your own paper into the computer lab.
Don't Rush through the NDA Screen: Don't simply rush through instructions. Make sure you fully read the screens in front of you in order to make sure you click the "Yes, I Accept" on the NDA.
Do Not Leave Your Seat Without Permission: After your final section is submitted, stay in your seat quietly until the lab proctor logs off your terminal, collects your erasable notepad, and instructs you that you may leave.
