## Formula

If the roots are:

$$a+ib,\qquad a-ib$$

then their sum is:

$$(a+ib)+(a-ib)=2a$$

and their product is:

$$(a+ib)(a-ib)=a^2+b^2$$

- Used to form quadratic factors corresponding to conjugate complex roots.
