The total number of integers pairs (x, y) satisfying the equation x + y = xy is
0
1
2
None of the above
xy = x + y
=> xy - x - y = 0
=> xy - x - y + 1 = 1
=> (x - 1) (y - 1) = 1
=> Both x - 1 and y - 1 have to be equal to 1 or -1.
So, values taken by (x,y) are (2,2) and (0,0).
=> 2 solutions
Hi. Instead of doing it this way, I divided both sides by xy to get 1/x + 1/y = 1. I marked 1 as the answer because as per this equation only one solution -- ie 2,2 can exist. Can you please clarify
Hi Anushka,When you divide it by xy, it will eliminate (0, 0) case.Thanks
