Reading Comprehension (RC) is the most important part of the XAT Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (VALR) section, consisting of nearly 14–16 questions every year. XAT Reading Comprehension Syllabus 2027
Reading Comprehension syllabus is part of the VALR section. XLRI Jamshedpur does not provide any separate topic list for the RC XAT syllabus, but based on previous years' papers and trends, some topics can be derived as important, such as abstract passages (philosophy, psychology), business and economy‑related passages, social and ethical issues, literature and humanities extracts, science and technology articles, current affairs and opinion-based, historical and cultural passages, and data‑driven caselets.

XAT RC not only requires speed reading, but it also demands deep and analytical thinking as well. XAT passages are not lengthy, but they require students to analyse each point. A structured preparation strategy can help aspirants easily solve lengthy passages under time pressure.

The Reading Comprehension section in the XAT consists of conceptual and inference-based questions instead of direct factual questions. XAT 2026 RC passages were approximately 300–550 words each, with approximately 5 prose passages and 1 poem. Prose passages each had 2–3 questions; the poem had 2 questions.
