The XAT exam each year repeats approximately 70% of its themes. Making the identification of important topics from the complete XAT syllabus is very important. XAT Important Topics 2027
XAT Syllabus 2027 has four major sections: Verbal & Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge. Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation (QA & DI) carries the highest weightage, with 28 out of 75 questions from part 1 of the exam. Candidates will have 170 minutes for Part 1, where they need to solve 75 questions: 26 questions from VALR, 21 questions from DM, and 28 questions from QADI. Further candidates are given 10 minutes for Part 2, where questions from GK are asked. There is no negative marking in this section. GK will be evaluated during the GDPI process. This section doesn't contribute to the overall XAT cutoff for the shortlisting for the interview round. Students are advised to prepare according to the weightage of each section. XAT Section-wise Important Topics
XAT does not announce its official section-wise syllabus. Instead, the syllabus is based on previous year's question papers and exam trends. The XAT exam has four primary sections: Verbal and Logical Ability (VALR), Decision Making (DM), Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QADI), and General Knowledge (GK). According to the latest XAT exam pattern, candidates should expect approximately 26 questions from VALR, 21 from Decision Making, 28 from QADI, and 20 from General Knowledge. QADI is considered the most difficult and time-consuming section, Decision Making is moderate but highly analytical, VALR ranges from moderate to difficult due to abstract Reading Comprehension passages; and GK is relatively easier but requires the best possible preparation.

Note: The exam duration is around 3 hours with no sectional time limits (except a separate General Knowledge part time limit). The total number of questions is around 95, with the General Knowledge section having a short duration.

XAT Verbal Ability topics
Verbal Ability topic in the XAT normally consists of 3-5 Reading Comprehension (RC) passages, making RC the most important topic. XAT is well-known for its philosophical and abstract RCs. Vocabulary questions are less context-based, so daily reading of editorials, philosophy, economics, and business articles is strongly recommended. To achieve a 99+ percentile, candidates should aim for 85-90% accuracy. XAT GK important topics
The XAT General Knowledge (GK) is a completely different part of the XAT exam; it consists of 20 questions, with Current Affairs getting a higher weightage than Static GK. Applicants should expect around 12-14 questions from Current Affairs and 6-8 questions from Static GK. The GK score does not affect the XAT percentile; it is taken into consideration during the XLRI selection process, making it an important part of the exam. Another advantage is that there is no negative marking in the GK part.
