XAT and SNAP are both MBA entrance exams conducted at the national level during the CAT admission period but have unique benefits. About 150+ B-schools, including XIMB, GIM, IMT Ghaziabad and TAPMI along with XLRI Jamshedpur accept XAT exam for admissions. Similarly, SNAP is an entrance exam required for all the 17 Symbiosis institutes and is conducted by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) and it is their only MBA entrance exam.

There is no single answer here - ‘better’ really hinges on your target colleges, risk taking appetite, and the time horizon you’re working with. XAT vs SNAP Exam Pattern

The most crucial difference between XAT and SNAP lies in the exam structure. While XAT is a marathon, multi-section paper with a unique Decision Making section and a different time limit for the GK section, SNAP is an explosive 2 hour paper with single settings and this exam was limited to four sections with new addition of The Ethics, Morality & Value section, from the 2026 edition onwards.

XAT Exam Pattern (Part 1 + Part 2):

There are two parts of the XAT exam. Part 1 (170 minutes; no sectional limit) would include Verbal & Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation. Part 2, the general knowledge section, is an additional 10 minutes long which doesn't have any negative marking nor would it count to your XAT percentile - GK would be assessed by XLRI or other participating colleges during the final selection process only.

XAT marking scheme:

• +1 marks for each right answer
• -0.25 negative marks for each wrong answer of Part 1
• -0.10 negative marks for unanswered question after first 8 unattempted question of Part 1
• No negative marks in GK and the GK section score is not used for calculating percentile

SNAP Exam Pattern (Updated, 2026 onwards):

SNAP is a computer-based, one-hour long exam comprising 60 questions of 1 mark each. The SNAP exam will now have four sections instead of three starting 2026. In addition to the existing three sections, it will have a new ‘Ethics, Morality and Values’ section. This section is likely to contain business-scenario and ethical-dilemma-based questions on similar lines to the Decision-Making section of XAT but much briefer and less challenging.

SNAP marking scheme:

• +1 mark for every correct answer
• −0.25 marks for every incorrect answer, across all four sections
• No sectional time limit within the overall 60-minute duration
