NMAT Eligibility Criteria 2024, Reservation Criteria And Age Limit

NMAT Eligibility Criteria 2024: The NMAT is a nationwide MBA entrance exam that candidates take to gain admission to esteemed management schools. The NMAT is the entrance test designed and conducted by GMAC - the GMAT conducting body.

Top management schools in India accept NMAT as a valid score for admission. These colleges include Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Alliance University, SRM University, BML Munjal University, VIT University, Ansal University etc.

The NMAT is a computer-based exam that is administered all around India. Applicants are free to select the exam place, date, and time that works best for them.

The GMAC claims to be student-friendly. Their website displays "NMAT by GMAC™ is the most candidate-friendly MBA admissions exam and offers the convenience and flexibility to choose dates as per convenience & improve score with 3 attempts in a testing cycle."

The NMAT 2024 exam is conducted three times in a year. This covers both the first try and the two tries again. It is essential to remember that the final percentile (that will appear before college admission committees) will be determined by taking the best result from the three attempts.

Number of Attempts

Candidates can take the NMAT 2024 exam up to three times a year, including one initial attempt and two retakes. The highest score from these three attempts will be used to determine the final percentile. Overall, there is no limit on the number attempts by a candidate in a lifetime.

Work Experience

Like IIMs work experience after completing a Bachelor’s degree is not compulsory for the NMAT exam. However, during the admission process, several colleges prefer students with 1-2 years of relevant work experience.

This can be divided into two parts based on your nationality.

1. NMAT Eligibility Criteria for Indian Citizens

  • Students must possess Bachelor's degree (10+2+3/4) from a recognized university or institute.
  • Students who plan on giving the exam must have acquired a minimum of 50% marks during their graduation.
  • Working professionals, freshers as well as students in their final year can appear for the exam.
  • There is no minimum or maximum age restriction set by the GMAC for the NMAT exam. Applications for NMAT 2024 are accepted from candidates in any age group.

As mentioned above, there is no criteria barring students without any work experience from appearing for the GMAT exam - anyone, irrespective of their work experience, provided that they are qualified in other domains, can appear for the exam.

2. NMAT Eligibility Criteria for International Students

  • Much like Indian students, International students have the same educational qualification criteria - a bachelor's degree(10+2+3/4) in any field from a recognized university or institute.
  • Same as Indian students, International candidates must also have scored a minimum of 50% marks in their bachelor’s degree exam.
  • Language Proficiency – Candidates from non-English speaking nations are required to speak English fluently. They might have to submit their IELTS or TOEFL results for this.
  • Working professionals, freshers as well as students in their final year can appear for the exam.
  • There is no minimum or maximum age restriction set by the GMAC for the NMAT exam. Applications for NMAT 2024 are accepted from candidates in any age range.

As mentioned above, there is no criteria barring students without any work experience from appearing for the GMAT exam - anyone, irrespective of their work experience, provided that they are qualified in other domains, can appear for the exam.

Additionally, the NMAT, much like the GMAT exam, it is also a computer adaptive exam. That is, based on your answer, the next question will be easier or harder. This means, if you answer a question correctly, the follow up question will be tougher. Therefore, the greater the number of tougher questions you solve - higher the marks you score.

This is very helpful for students as it levels the battlefield. It allows them to play according to their strengths.

Reservation By NMAT Colleges

Since GMAC does not manage the admissions process, each participating college or university sets its own reservation policies for MBA/PGDM admissions via NMAT. These institutions may have unique criteria for reservations, so aspirants should check the specific requirements on the respective university websites before applying.

Furthermore, the NMAT exam does not have different minimum qualifying marks for different candidate categories during registration, and the NMAT registration fee is uniform for all applicants.
