JoSAA Round 3 Result 2026

The JoSAA 2026 Round 3 seat allotment result is scheduled for July 6, 2026, at 5:00 PM IST on josaa.nic.in. Round 3 is the midpoint of the five-round JoSAA counselling cycle, where meaningful rank relaxation begins to appear, especially for NIT and IIIT seats, as IIT-allotted candidates confirm their seats and vacate lower-preference choices. Candidates who selected Float or Slide in Round 2 will learn whether they have received an upgrade, while those without an earlier allotment may find newly available seats. The online reporting window for fee payment and document upload runs from July 6 to July 8, 2026, until 5:00 PM IST. July 9, 2026, is the final deadline only for responding to verification queries raised by the reporting officers.

JoSAA Round 3 Seat Allotment Result 2026

Round 3 allotments are generated from seats vacated by candidates who upgraded, withdrew, or did not complete reporting in Round 2. Candidates who Froze in Round 1 or Round 2 are not included in Round 3. Every candidate receiving a Round 3 allotment, including those who Floated from an earlier round and received an upgrade, must complete fee payment and document upload between July 6 and July 8 (5:00 PM IST); any verification queries must be resolved by July 9 (5:00 PM IST). The Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) paid in an earlier round carries forward automatically; first-time allottees in Round 3 pay the SAF fresh.

SAF amounts: Rs. 30,000 for General/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates (Rs. 5,000 non-refundable processing charge; Rs. 25,000 adjusted against institute admission fee). Rs. 15,000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates (Rs. 5,000 non-refundable; Rs. 10,000 adjusted against fees). If a candidate withdraws after paying the SAF, the Rs. 5,000 processing component is retained in all cases.

JoSAA Round 3 Cutoff and Opening-Closing Ranks

Official Round 3 OR-CR figures will be published on josaa.admissions.nic.in on July 6, 2026, alongside the allotment result. The table below presents Round 1 confirmed closing ranks alongside estimated Round 3 ranges based on historical round-on-round relaxation patterns. IIT figures are JEE Advanced AIR; NIT figures are JEE Main CRL for the Other State quota, Open category, Gender-Neutral pool. Home State quota closing ranks at NITs are consistently more relaxed by 300 to 2,000 ranks depending on the institute and category.

Institute

Programme

Round 1 CR (Reference)

Round 3 CR (Estimated)

Basis

IIT Bombay

CSE (Open GN, AIR)

65

~65 to 70

Minimal movement; top demand absorbs all seats

IIT Delhi

CSE (Open GN, AIR)

123

~130 to 145

Small relaxation as upgrade-outs from this range are rare

IIT Madras

CSE (Open GN, AIR)

149

~155 to 175

Moderate relaxation; some candidates upgrade out to Bombay

IIT Kanpur

CSE (Open GN, AIR)

276

~295 to 330

Steady relaxation; third and fourth rounds show more movement

NIT Trichy

CSE (OS, Open GN, CRL)

1,317

~1,400 to 1,500

8 to 12% relaxation typical by Round 3

NIT Surathkal

CSE (OS, Open GN, CRL)

1,605

~1,700 to 1,900

Consistent relaxation pattern across rounds

NIT Warangal

CSE (OS, Open GN, CRL)

2,238

~2,400 to 2,600

Third most competitive NIT CSE seat

NIT Calicut

CSE (OS, Open GN, CRL)

5,100

~5,200 to 5,600

R1 already relaxed vs 2025 final; further easing expected

Why IIT CSE barely moves: At IIT Bombay, Delhi, and Madras CSE, closing ranks across all five rounds show almost no movement because candidates ranked in this range universally prefer these seats and very few candidates with better ranks vacate them. NIT seats, by contrast, see consistent 8 to 15% relaxation by Round 3 as candidates allotted IIT seats confirm and exit, freeing NIT choices for candidates ranked just outside the Round 1 cutoff.

What to Do After JoSAA Round 3 Allotment

Fee payment, document upload, and willingness selection must be completed before July 8, 2026 at 5:00 PM IST. The final deadline for responding to verification queries is July 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM IST. Missing any step in the reporting window results in seat cancellation with no reinstatement option. The table below summarises every decision and action, its deadline, and the consequence of inaction.

Option / Action

Deadline

Key Implication

Freeze (accept allotment, exit further rounds)

July 8, 2026 (5:00 PM IST)

Seat is confirmed; prepare for physical joining at the allotted institute

Float (accept allotment, stay in pool for upgrade)

July 8, 2026 (5:00 PM IST)

Current seat is retained as fallback; no additional SAF payment needed

Slide (keep institute, seek better branch)

July 8, 2026 (5:00 PM IST)

Applicable only within the same institute; SAF already paid carries forward

Pay Seat Acceptance Fee (first-time allottees only)

July 8, 2026 (5:00 PM IST)

Rs. 30,000 (General/OBC-NCL/EWS); Rs. 15,000 (SC/ST/PwD); non-payment cancels seat

Upload documents

July 8, 2026 (5:00 PM IST)

Document upload closes July 8; verification queries raised by officers must be resolved by July 9, 2026 (5:00 PM IST)

Seat withdrawal / voluntary exit

July 7 to July 8, 2026 (10:00 AM to 5:00 PM IST only)

Voluntary exit window is limited to this two-day slot; outside this window, withdrawal is not permitted for Round 3

Choosing between Float and Freeze: Float costs nothing additional and keeps upgrade possibilities open through Rounds 4 and 5. Freeze is appropriate when the allotted seat is genuinely the first preference and no upgrade is desired. Candidates who are unsure should always Float rather than Freeze, since Freezing is permanent within the cycle. Withdrawal should only be considered by candidates who have firmly decided not to join any JoSAA-listed institute, since the Rs. 5,000 processing charge is non-refundable in all cases.

JoSAA Round 3 Result 2026: Conclusion

The JoSAA Round 3 Result 2026 is an important stage of the counselling process because candidates may receive fresh allotments or upgrades based on the seats vacated after Round 2. The result is scheduled for July 6, 2026, at 5:00 PM IST. After checking the result, you must carefully review your allotted institute, programme, category and quota before selecting Freeze, Float or Slide.

Candidates receiving a seat for the first time must pay the Seat Acceptance Fee and upload the required documents before July 8, 2026, at 5:00 PM IST. Any verification queries must be answered by July 9, 2026. Candidates without an allotment will automatically remain eligible for the remaining counselling rounds, while official JoSAA Round 3 cutoffs should be checked through the JoSAA admissions portal.
