Step-by-Step JoSAA Registration and Choice Filling Process

Choice filling is an important step during JoSAA counseling since the seats will be allotted on the basis of the preference list of the candidates.

Step 1: Visit Official JoSAA Website

Go to the JoSAA counseling website and navigate to the candidate login link.

Step 2: Login via JEE Details

Login using your JEE Main/JEE Advanced Application Number, Password, and Security Pin.

Step 3: Verify Candidate Details

Check Name, Category, State of Eligibility, Gender, and Rank Details.

Step 4: Fill Institute and Branch Preferences

Candidates can select programs from IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. Arrange choices according to your actual preference because JoSAA always attempts to allot the highest preferred available choice.

Step 5: Save Choices

Candidates can save and modify preferences multiple times before the deadline.

Step 6: Check Mock Seat Allotments

JoSAA released two mock seat allocations on June 8 and June 10 to help candidates understand their probable allotment based on the current choice list.

Step 7: Reorder Choices

Based on mock allotment results, candidates could add more colleges, reorder branches, and include safer options.

Step 8: Lock Choices

Before June 11, candidates had to lock their final preferences. Once locked, choices could not be modified.

Step 9: Download Confirmation Page

Candidates should keep a copy of the locked choices for future reference.

Freeze, Float and Slide Options in JoSAA 2026

After seat allotment, candidates must choose one of the following options:

Option

Meaning

Freeze

Accept the allotted seat and do not participate in further rounds

Float

Accept the allotted seat and remain eligible for a higher preferred institute

Slide

Accept the allotted seat and seek a better branch in the same institute

Understanding these options is essential because they determine participation in subsequent counselling rounds.

JoSAA Counselling 2026: Conclusion

JoSAA Counselling 2026 is one of the most important stages for students seeking admission into IITs, NITs, IIITs, IIEST Shibpur and GFTIs. Since registration, choice filling and Round 1 seat allotment are already completed, candidates must now focus carefully on reporting, document verification, seat acceptance fee payment and upcoming allotment rounds.

Students should track every JoSAA Counselling 2026 deadline closely because missing any reporting or payment step can affect their allotted seat. Understanding the seat allotment process, Freeze, Float and Slide options, required documents and round-wise schedule will help candidates make better admission decisions during the counselling process.
