JoSAA 2026 is conducting admissions for 138 participating institutions, including 23 IITs, IISc Bengaluru, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 56 GFTIs. Across all participating institutions, a total of 67,323 seats are available for admission in the 2026-27 academic year.

Although the seat matrix remains fixed throughout counselling, seat availability changes across rounds due to Freeze, Float, and Slide options, as well as conversion of unfilled category-specific seats according to JoSAA rules.

Total Seat Growth in JoSAA 2026

JoSAA 2026 has recorded an increase of 4,470 seats over the previous year, representing approximately 7% growth. The highest seat growth has been observed among IIITs and GFTIs, while IITs and NITs have also expanded their intake capacity.

Note: The IIT total of 18,951 seats includes 18,826 seats across the 23 IITs and 125 seats offered by IISc Bengaluru through JoSAA for the first time.

Among IITs, IIT Jodhpur recorded the largest seat increase, followed by IIT Mandi, IIT Indore, IIT Palakkad, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Jammu. Meanwhile, IIT Dharwad and IIT Madras saw minor reductions in intake. Overall, the combined IIT and IISc system added 791 seats for the 2026 admission cycle.

New Institutes Added to JoSAA 2026

The most significant addition to JoSAA 2026 is IISc Bengaluru, which is participating in JoSAA counselling for B.Tech admissions for the first time. Along with its existing Mathematics and Computing programme, IISc has introduced three new B.Tech programmes, bringing a total of 125 seats under the JoSAA framework.

Admission to all four IISc B.Tech programmes will be based exclusively on JEE Advanced 2026 ranks through JoSAA counselling. Since these programmes are entering the counselling process for the first time, candidates should avoid relying solely on historical cutoff trends while evaluating their admission chances.

Additionally, nine new Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) have joined JoSAA 2026, increasing the total number of participating GFTIs from 47 to 56. This expansion has contributed significantly to the overall growth in available seats across the counselling system.
