IIT ECE Round 3 Cutoff 2026

JoSAA Round 3 cut-offs are now available, helping students to strategize their next steps. If you have secured a seat in any IIT ECE branch, congratulations! If you prefer to wait for admission to the Top IITs based on your rank, consider selecting the float option. JoSAA Round 4 is expected to begin on July 10, 2026.

Small cutoff changes can still happen because of seat withdrawals and upgrades. If your rank is close, don't lose hope yet. Instead, keep checking the cut-offs and make a realistic admission decision.

IIT ECE Round 3 Cutoff 2026 (Institute-Wise)

The Round 3 cutoff gives a much clearer picture than Round 1. By now, most students have either accepted their seats or are waiting only for better IITs. That makes these ranks far more useful if you're planning for Round 4.

One interesting pattern stands out. Older IITs like Roorkee and Guwahati are still ranked much lower than newer IITs. Meanwhile, IIT Bhilai and IIT Dharwad offered the widest closing ranks, giving students with higher ranks another chance.

Instead of looking only at the closing rank, compare the opening rank too. A smaller gap usually means stronger competition. A wider gap often shows that more students got admitted through later allotments.

IIT ECE Round 3 Cutoff 2026 (Category-Wise)

The category-wise cutoff tells a different story from the overall institute list. Every category follows its own admission trend, so comparing only the Open cutoff can create confusion.

For example, the difference between Open and OBC-NCL is much smaller at some IITs than at others. The same happens in EWS, SC, and ST categories. This shows that demand changes from one institute to another.

If your rank is just outside this year's closing rank, don't remove that choice immediately. A small movement in the next round could still make a difference, especially if students upgrade to higher-preference institutes.

PwD seats usually see limited movement after the early counselling rounds. The same trend continued in Round 3.

Most IITs reported no major change in PwD closing ranks. Some categories even had only one admitted candidate, which explains why the opening and closing ranks remained the same.

IIT ECE Round 3 Cutoff 2026 Vs Round 2

After rounds 1 and 2, there aren’t many changes in the current JoSAA round 3 cut-offs in ECE. This is similar to the IIT CSE cut-offs too. Only two or three colleges moved in the ranks. This might be due to some students shifting from IITs to Top NITs, or they secured a CSE seat. Reasons might be many, but in this round, the change is minimal. And also, if you are expecting a big round of change in round 4, then you will be disappointed. Already, most of the students might have frozen their options. However, there is still scope, so let’s hope for the best.

Factors Affecting IIT ECE Round 3 Cutoff 2026

Many students think that only rank decides admission. In reality, several things work together before every cutoff is released.

  • Students are upgrading to better IITs, top NITs, or IIITs.
  • In case of a change to CSE or other coding-related branches.
  • Vacant seats after withdrawals.
  • Number of available ECE seats across the IITs.
  • Category-wise reservation policy.
  • Choice-filling order during counselling.
  • Seat acceptance after each round. Some might have frozen options after getting into the desired college.
  • IIT's popularity of placements and academics.

Even if only a few students change their choices, the cutoff can still move by several ranks in the next round.

IIT ECE Round 3 Cutoff 2026: Conclusion

As we can see in the above data, JoSAA Round 3 confirms that IIT ECE admissions have become quite stable this year. Most institutes recorded little or no movement, which helps students predict Round 4 more confidently.

Don't focus on one IIT alone. Compare every option, track the next allotment carefully, and keep realistic expectations. If you're preparing for JEE 2027, these cutoff trends also help you understand what kind of rank is needed for different IITs. And also don’t forget to upload the required documents and pay the admission fee.
