Distance of a Point from an Asymptote

For the asymptote:

$$bx-ay=0$$

the perpendicular distance of $$P(x_1,y_1)$$ from it is:

$$d=\frac{|bx_1-ay_1|}{\sqrt{a^2+b^2}}$$

Usage

- Used in problems involving the distance of a point on the hyperbola from an asymptote.
