Basic Buffer (Henderson-Hasselbalch)

Rarely Tested

$$\text{pOH} = \text{p}K_b + \log_{10}\left(\frac{[\text{Salt}]}{[\text{Base}]}\right)$$

Concept: Calculates the pOH of a basic buffer solution containing a weak base and its conjugate acid.

Notation:

  • $$\text{pOH}$$ = Potential of hydroxide;
  • $$\text{p}K_b$$ = $$-\log_{10}K_b$$
  • $$[\text{Salt}]$$ = Molar concentration of salt;
  • $$[\text{Base}]$$ = Molar concentration of weak base.
